After graduating from HEC Montréal with a business degree in 1968, Marc-André Élie began his career at Greenshield Inc. as a bond trader.
In 1970, he joined Molson Rousseau and was given responsibility for all bond desk operations and developed the institutional sales department. He was then entrusted with the responsibility of financially managing several major accounts and took charge of the firm's underwriting activities. In 1984, he was promoted to President and Chief Operating Officer, a position he held until the merger with Dominion Securities in 1986.
At RBC Dominion Securities, he was immediately appointed to the Board of Directors. In 1988, he became a member of the Executive Committee and was appointed to head the firm's Quebec operations. He actively participated in the substantial increase in business volumes at RBC Dominion Securities and also oversaw the firm's subsequent integration with the Royal Bank Group following a takeover in 1988. At RBC Dominion Securities, he was primarily responsible for underwriting activities and directed the firm's strategy in Quebec , notably, the important acquisition of McNeil Mantha in 1991. In 1995, he became one of the four Vice-Chairmen to be on the Board.
His other achievements include being named a member of the Board of Directors of the Quebec Chapter of IDA and serving as Vice-Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Montreal Stock Exchange from 1996-1997, after having been a Governor of the Exchange from 1983-1984.
In 1999, he becomes one of the four founders of Fonds d'Investissements spécialisés du Québec (FISQ) a mutual fund company. He is currently a Board member.
Marc-André is the chief portfolio manager at ARX Capital. Together with the team of managers he establishes the firm's global investment policy and the choice of securities.
